There is a little error here, the example C-1's old tags should be <? ... >, not <?
... ?>.
e.g.
<? echo "This is PHP/FI 2.0 code.\n"; >
We know this as shortly after it states:
"Notice that the end tag now consists of a question mark and a greater-than character instead
of just greater-than."
