You cannot, apparently, do the following:
while ($xary=each($x) && $yary=each($y)) {
...
it appears that the second each, on $y, disturbs (re-each()es?) the first each, on $x.
You have to do:
while ($xary=each($x)) {
$yary=each($y);
...
