----
I have servers at home and at work.
I have a php script which calls a perl script with some arguments and then displays the results of
the perl script.
The perl script is reading an excel file!
(proof: www.madmadscience.com/testexcel.php?Excel/Test97.xls)
This php runs correctly from that URL at home (it looks ugly, I know). PHP Version 4.2.2
At work (intranet PHP Version 4.0.6), the php script runs from a local terminal command line
correctly, and it runs from lynx in a local terminal session correctly.
In a browser from the network, or from konquorer at the local machine, the script runs without
error, but never produces any of the output from the called perl script.
ie. the following line silently fails to execute in those contexts:
exec("perl testexcel.pl $argv[0]", $output);
The $output is never populated.
Where am I missing a security setting that is not allowing execution in this way?
By the way, this is close to being the only way to read excel files under linux in PHP, using the
perl paresexcel module.
