You have to use the right MIME type in Content-Type of header to show image or other application
specific files.
A good Reference on MIME is available at http://www.w3schools.com/media/media_mimeref.asp
An extended (downloadable) MIME information is available at FEBD (http://fedb.digitalrice.com)
Here is a short code to demonstrate the usage of MIME type; it shows Google's FavIcon in
browser:
<?php
header('Content-type: image/x-icon');
include("http://www.google.com/favicon.ico");
?>
