For those who've got a problem with running a background process with exec(), it looks that
some process doesn't support it at all, some will need to be redirected to /dev/null. If you
can't load your program even with ">/dev/null" you are supposed to code a little
sh script to run your program in background
This is 'file.sh'
#/bin/sh
command_here &
and you :
exec("file.sh");
Note: this will not work with the program that require an output on your screen like
'top'.
