Note that by kludging his way around the magic_quotes_gpc problem "allen AT brooker DOT
G(ee)B(ee) DOT net" rather misleads ( below ) when he says, "So saying that the behavious
[sic] cannot be modified at runtime is actually incorrect," since he's traded another
problem for the one he's solved: He removes any and all legitimate back-slashes from his input.
