I think the author meant to use _milliseconds_ - not microseconds.
If you wanted to wait half a second, you would wait 500 milliseconds. If you wanted to wait half a
millisecond, you would wait 500 microseconds - which doesn't really come in too handy when
coding at the PHP level (maybe assembler/C for DSP apps!).
