Either dbmopen itself is highly screwed up or the documentation is wrong or
doesn't cover all possibilities.
I was having trouble with using the
dbmfunctions with a hosting service
using ndbm as the underlying flat-file
database (and most likely Linux as the host OS) and had to do the following to
get dbmopen to work:
Only use the "r", "w" and "n" file open flags. First do a
"r" or "w" and if the file is not present then create it with a "n"
flag. "c" does not seem to be working. "w" stands in for "rw". On
my Win2K/IIS 5.0 system however, DBM is so buggy as to be useless.
