Please note you can apparently use the printf()'s format codes you can find in any C language
manual in order to improve format.
Example (remove leading zero from day of the month):
setlocale(LC_TIME, 'en');
echo strftime('%A %d de %B de %1Y');
echo '<br>';
echo strftime('%A %1d de %B de %1Y');
Result:
