The cool thing is the function definition doesn't really need the amersand, at least for my PHP
4.2.3, not even for methods in classes:
<?
class bobo {
var $zozo=array(
array('lili'=>3.1415)
);
function bibi()
{
return($this->zozo[0]['lili']);
}
function dump()
{
var_dump($this->zozo);
}
}
$b=new bobo;
$b->dump(); // 3.1415
$m=&$b->bibi();
$m=15;
$b->dump(); // 15
?>
