Serialization is intended for complicated objects like user-defined classes and resource identifiers
(including database connections and file handles); there is no need to serialize the built-in
datatypes like string or bool.
So saltymeat's warning about unserializing a boolean shouldn't be that necessary, since a
boolean can be bassed as a 1 or a 0, avoiding the need for serialization.
