Note Submitter: Brian ---- You may find that when you are creating your directory you aren't giving yourself write permission, check out the umask command. You'll find commands like umask, chgrp and chown are part of php's filesystem module and can be run without superuser access, but you will only be able to modify files if php has the correct permission to access them. We've found the best way to solve problems like this is to run php as a binary and use apache's suexec feature.. This allows us to do virtual hosting where everyone of our customers php scripts runs with their users uid, disk quota, etc. This not only solves problems with file permissions but increases our general level of security. Although this method does have a few disadvantages in terms of speed, etc we haven't had any complaints from customers and are happy that customer's code wont break our servers.
