It seems that PHP team has made some changes to mysql_pconnect() and mysql_connect() functions in
version 4.3.0. We updated PHP 4.3.0 to our production servers about a week ago and since then
we've faced major difficulties with connections to our MySQL server also located on the
production server.
The problem is that the connection to the MySQL servers is interrupted very quickly or there is not
connection at all. We found out that when using the domain of the server instead of
"localhost" problems occur.
So, to avoid problems, I recommend using "localhost" instead of "yourdomain.com"
or whatsoever. This actually affects on both, mysql_pconnect() and mysql_connect().
