I'm runing Debian (Stable) GNU/Linux 3.0r1, Apache 1.3.26, PHP 4.3.4. I recently changed my
PHP session_handler from 'files' to 'mm' in php.ini.
A few days (and 10,000+ requests) worth of testing on the inhouse development server showed no
problems, so the new PHP version, with the new session handler, was rolled onto our production
server.
Disaster!
Within 12 hours some Apache children processes started SegFaulting, Apache itself went down
completely within 24. Hurriedly SSHing into the production server and turning the session_handler
back to 'files' stopped the crashes.
I think I'll use a the new Linux 2.4 'tmpfs' filesystem and the 'files' PHP
session_handler for our next server build...
