this is not really the same function. Something like this should work better:
function php3_preg_grep($array, $pattern)
{
$return = Array();
for($i=0;$i<count($array);$i++)
{ if(preg_match($pattern,$array[$i])) $return[] = $array[$i]; }
return $return;
}
