As someone else wrote, please forgive me if this is "old news", but it took me forever to
figure it out.
If you're running Apache/PHP under Windows and use ZoneAlarm, you'll probably want to shut
down the firewall before running any scripts that involve sessions. ZoneAlarm interferes with
sessions in such a way that session variables are never set the first time a script is run, so you
have to run each script twice, which is obviously not a very practical solution.
I'm not sure whether ZoneAlarm interferes with PHP or Apache (probably the latter), but the
fact is that if your session variables are not being set properly and you're running ZoneAlarm,
shut it down before you've pulled out all the hair on your head.
