It's not mentioned here but is buried under the docs for session_register(): you CANNOT save a
"resource" as a session variable. They specifically state MySQL connections, but I was
trying to cache LDAP connections.
That means you'll have to reconnect (and re-bind) each time; seems the antithesis of classic DB
connection pools for speed and efficiency.
