I'm pretty sure that the reason you're getting this error is because you did not put the
quotation marks in the include statement around your variable:
define("RELATIVE_PATH", "./");
$strCommonFile = RELATIVE_PATH."includes/common.inc.php";
require_once("$strCommonFile");
^ ^
You need the quotes.
