I've always found it safer to add user accounts to the operating system (under both Linux and
Windows NT) for web logins and only give the account permission to the user's directory. Then
you can call system functions through that user account and use OS authentication routines to
ensure. For example: under Linux the "Super User" (su <name>) command is useful for
user authentication.
