On my apache setup w/ php as a CGI program, I found that the AddType approach didn't work
(dumps the php source); using ForceType (mentioned above) lead to an Internal Server Error, but
finally this .htaccess file did work for me:

Action php-script /cgi-bin/php
AddHandler php-script .html
