If for any reason you need to display the variable name, instead of the variables content (e.g:You
want to make a MySQL query inserting the variable's name into the database instead of it's
value, so when the next time the script reads the databasefield it will read the variable's
name, and it's transformed into it's value during the script execution), you can escape
the variable just as you would do with " and '.
Example:
<?php
$var = "test";
echo "$var"; //Output will be test
$var = "test";
echo "\$var"; //Output will be $var
?>
