The section on expressions (http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.expressions.php) needs updating.
It mentions that PHP supports three scalar value types: integer values, floating point values and
string values.
As of PHP 4 , Booleans are also supported as a scalar value. (see http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.types.php).
