It would seem in version 2.0.4 of gd, there's been a change in the definition of struct gdIOCtx
(defined in gd_io.h), which for me caused the following error:
gd_ctx.c:70: structure has no member named `free'
and similiar, relating errors from gd.c and gd_ctx.c, preventing me compiling php with gd support.
The solution that appears to work without problems is to simply edit gd.c and gd_ctx.c (in ext/gd,
in php's codetree), and replace all occurances of "->free" with
"->gd_free".
