First of all, this sounds rather inane to ask here, but what license is PHP actually distributed
under? is it GNU GPL? is it BSD? other?
I'm also curious about a few licensing issues. If i write a library of functions, objects,
etc, for use as part of PHP applications (web or server), similar to something like PEAR or
whatever, the code that i write it in obviously by necessity being written in PHP, do i have to
distribute/publish that library under the same terms of license as PHP itself is distributed? and
do i have to distribute PHP along with it?
In other words, is a program/script written IN the language that the PHP engine interprets
considered a derivative work of PHP?
what if I was compiling the PHP using the Zend engine? would that have to be distributed under the
same terms as the Zend engine?
OR, as I am hoping, is a derivative work of PHP only considered something written to modify the PHP
engine itself, such as an extension, a revision of the Zend engine, the module that Apache loads PHP
with, etc etc?
(and as a side note, did I violate licensing issues or copyrights by using the terms PHP, Zend, etc
in this post?)
