The below note is not entirely correct. The process given works on the Windows distro of PHP,
however, when it comes to POSIX (Unix, Linux, etc) the proceedure is vastly different, though no
more difficult.
What I ended up doing to get cURL working was this:
Downloaded cURL 7.10.7 from http://curl.haxx.se/ .
Decompressed and de-tarred the archive (most *nix users know how to do this, if not, check out the
documentation for cURL or PHP)
# ./configure
# make
# make install
(note the root prompt)
Downloaded PHP 4.3.3
Decompressed and de-tarred using the same method
# autoconf
# ./configure --with-curl
# make
# make install
And that's it, children. You should have a working distribution of PHP with cURL compiled in.
Jump into a regular user account and type
$ which php
to see if it's in your search path.
