PWS 4 - PHP 4 - NT 4 Workstation -
If you don't get your script map correct the first time (i.e.
".php"="some_path\php4isapi.dll"), you may run into trouble because PWS will
retain your old (incorrect) entries and will try to associate your .php files with the wrong entry
(I received 404 errors for files which were clearly there. I don't know what you'll see).
Here's how to repair it:
You need "Internet Service Manager" to see these associations. By default, PWS installs
without "Internet Service Manager" (it installs/uses "Personal Web Manager" for
configuration by default) so if you don't have it, you can install it as follows: run
"start->programs->windows NT 4.0 Option Pack->windows NT 4.0 option Pack setup".
choose "Add/Remove" programs, highlight "Personal Web Server (PWS)", and click
"Show Subcomponents". Check the box by "Internet Service Manager" and continue
install. WARNING: To those of you familiar with IIS and MMC: Do not be deceived by the entry
"Microsoft Management Console". This entry is irrelevant to the web server configuration
and was put here by Microsoft specifically to confuse you (in my case, they succeeded brilliantly in
their efforts).
Once Internet Service Manager is installed you can run it from run
"start->programs->windows NT 4.0 Option Pack->Microsoft Personal Web
Server->Internet Service Manager"
Now follow the same directions for PHP's IIS 4.0 install with the following special note: When
you open up the "Home Directory->Configuration->Application Mappings" dialog, check
for and remove any duplicate entries for the ".php" extension. (keep the one that points
to the right place of course ;-) ).
Good Luck,
Doug
