If you read the rest of the manual you'll discover that PHP4 is runtime-compiled into bytecode,
like Perl. And generally it's installed as a server extension, like mod_perl. So Perl has no
advantage in this area. PHP's performance generally is better, even without taking advantage of
accelerators such as the Zend Accelerator or APC, which cache the generated bytecode.
