I have just upgraded our database system to:-
mysql Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.18, for pc-linux (i686)
When using mysql_select_db there seems to be an error with the latest mysql, if you do not pass the
resource_link or chan which is returned from mysql_pconnect as the second argument the database can
get confused as to which db it should be querying. Its looking likely that the mysql_select_db
second argument needs to become a mandatory arg and not optional as suggested in the php docs.
This was not a problem on older mysql versions, the database was the only component that changed
between testing so it has to lie with the latest mysql server version.
