Following three lines take about 0.5 second to execute (Debian, Celeron 2GHz, 256MB RAM): setlocale(LC_ALL, 'pl_PL'); bindtextdomain('my_domain', '../dir/' . 'locale'); textdomain('my_domain'); I think that such delay is important enough to be mentioned in the documentation.
