Note Submitter: jwilliam@kcr.uky.edu ---- If you want to use the new GD-2.0.4 with php 4.2.3...... I had to do the following: (optional) install freetype-2.1.2 untar gd-2.0.4 cd to the gd dir and run ./configure make libgd.a install apache... I know the previous steps are pretty much the old way of doing things. My problems came up when I tried to install php-4.2.3. After a successful ./configure the make failed with an error talking about "structure has no member named 'free'" I removed the untarred php directory and untarred php again. I went to the php-4.2.3/ext/gd directory and edited the following files. gd.c on lines 1014, 1017, and 1209 change free to gd_free gd_ctx.c on lines 70 and 98 change free to gd_free run configure again (one line) ./configure --with-gd=/usr/src/gd-2.0.4 --with-freetype-dir=/usr --enable-gd-native-ttf --enable-gd-imgstrttf --with-jpeg-dir=/usr --with-png-dir=/usr --with-zlib --with-mysql --with-apxs=/www/httpd/bin/apxs make make install After I did those steps it compiled ok and I did the usual steps of editing the php.ini and httpd.conf files. This one made us crazy for a while. My co-worker Matt found a similar post in comp.lang.perl.misc while I was looking at the code and I managed to piece this together after reading what they posted. Hope this helped... John The new version of GD appears to have corrected some problems I was having with jpgraph.
