Just a little note to stop someone tearing their hair out for 3 days like me
if you use the typical installation for apache in windows it puts it in the 'Program
files/apache group/ apache' dir this causes some very strange problems and the only cure i
found was to do a custom install using 'c:/apache' as the dir
everything now works first time.
It looks like as it is DOS based it doesn't like spaces in Dir names
