The comments against ASP and Windows are nuts. You are hearing rumors or are dealing with incompetent people. My Windows servers NEVER crash. Out of the box, probably but you have set them up properly. Now VB haters, you are plain ignorant. Nothing in the world beats VB. Sure you can't build an operating system, and building a relational database engine would be too damn slow. But for building applications and COM components nothing is better. I have build industrial strength security systems with VB. Of course you have to know how to use the Win32 API, but if you do, there is little you can do in C that you can't do in VB. Sure, superficially VB looks like little more than a cute GUI builder for database I apps, I assure you that since version 5, VB pros like myself can build just about anything and fast. Personally, I think the C is the most elegant of all languages. But when it comes to scripting VBScript is quickest and easiest to learn and it is very readable. Lastly, about objects, the small inconvience of having to create objects opens you to a world of power. While one writer points out ASP has few build in components, big deal! There a thousands of components out there. And if you know C++ or just poor cheezy VB, you can build your own COM components. Say what you will about Microsoft, but COM was brilliant. When I get a UNIX project, I'll go with PHP. Seems to the best for this. However, if you want me to build you something really sophisticated, give me my COM and ASP. (Okay Java has the power, but what a convoluted platform!) ---- Manual Page -- http://www.php.net/manual/en/faq.languages.php Edit -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=edit+43116 Delete -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+43116&report=yes Reject -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=reject+43116&report=yes Search -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php
