This will allow you to manipulate the thumbnail image ($imgJpeg) using the various gd commands:

if (($imgJpeg = exif_thumbnail($strImagePath)) === false)
print "No Thumbnail!";
else
$imgJpeg = imageCreateFromString($imgJpeg);
