I came across a problem where Internet Explorer refused to cache some dynamically created images. To
get round this, send out a Last-Modified header.
Eg:

header('Last-Modified: '.gmdate('D, d M Y H:i:s', $timestamp).' GMT');
header('Content-Type: image/jpeg');
imagejpeg($photo);
?>
