Note that as of php4.3.2RC4, the 'status' argument must be a reference to a variable; NULL
and 0 are not allowed.
People used to using waitpid() in POSIX/C may try:
$p = pcntl_waitpid($pid, NULL, WNOHANG);
Instead, you'll need to use a variable, even if you're not going to use it:
$p = pcntl_waitpid($pid, &$temp, WNOHANG);
