I hope this helps someone, i used it to do a 'LIKE' match using 2 variables:
$var1 = "hello";
$var2 = "hello there";
if (ereg($var1, $var2)) {
echo "Like Match";
} else {
echo "not a Like Match";
}
// The Like match above echos 'Like Match' because 'hello' is contained in
'hello there'
