I had php4 running fine under Windows XP/Apache 2, then decided to upgrade from the CGI version to
the SAPI version of php. When I did that, php worked but I kept getting a message that the dynamic
library php_gd2.dll could not load. The extension path in php.ini was correct and the updated dll
existed in that directory. This feature had previously worked fine so I knew it ought to work. I
finally found a program called Dependency Walker (http://www.dependencywalker.com/) that indicated
that php_gd2.dll is dependent on php4ts.dll so I knew that was the source of the problem. I made
sure the path where php4ts.dll was located (/php/sapi/ in my case) was in my Windows default path
list, but that still didn't work) I finally figured out that I had an old php_gd2.dll in my
Windows /system32/ directory from the previous installation. When I removed that old file,
everything worked fine. A good reason not to put that file into the system32 directory in the first
place! (but if you put it somewhere else, you need to be sure the windows path list includes the
directory where the good copy of that file is located.)
