Be carefull with Ungreedy modifier. In that case only required part will be captured. Example:
preg_match_all("% 4 \s (\(.*\))?
%Ux", "4 (inside) outside", $out, PREG_SET_ORDER);
print_r($out);
"inside" text will never be returned. Just remove U and it will be returned.
