If you wish to include a file based on the server's root, use this:
<?php
// Works
include($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . '/sessionStart.php');
// Doesn't Work
include( '/sessionStart.php');
?>
I had many problems with this trying to include a file based off of the site's root. Hope this
saves someone else some time.
