Manual warns: «The new_link parameter became available in PHP 4.2.0».
Before finding workarounds, make sure your old PHP version does not really support it. The one
bundled with Red Hat 7.3 (php-4.1.2-7.3.6) does accept this parameter even though it shouldn't.
