Another thing you can do (if you're using the dbx_* functions), is download the dbxext module
(http://www.dlitz.net/go/php-dbx-ext/ ), and let it handle proper quoting for you (like most other
scripting languages do it):
$link = dbx_connect(...);
$results = dbx_execute($link,
"DELETE FROM foo WHERE a = ? AND b = ? AND c = ? AND d = ?",
array("foo", $b, 5, '5'));
