All these could be mush simplified if PHP provided support for the C99 standard strfconv() function (or an emulation using localeconv() in a similar fashion as the above PHP code, if system-support for strfconv() is not detected at PHP-modules compile-time), completing the work partly done for strfdate() and date locales.
