Still talking about the replacement from dave at codexweb dot co dot za for PHP < 4.3.0 users,
the following line
$trans_tbl = get_html_translation_table (HTML_ENTITIES);
should be replaced by
$trans_tbl = get_html_translation_table (HTML_ENTITIES, $opt);
