Something that helped me with install of ISAPI PHP on Win XP Pro with IIS 5.1 - loading of the DLLs
seemed to be speedier after changing the permissions on the DLL files so that they were not
inherited from the parent directory. In my install, I opted to put the php4isapi.dll and php4ts.dll
in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\INETSRV folder and the extension DLLs in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder
I installed PHP using an administrator account; however, I access everything with a regular user
account. Initial login on the user account was slow until I did the following:
Login to Administrator account and do following steps for each DLL.
Right-click on DLL file and select Properties.
Click Security tab.
Click Advanced Settings button.
Click Owner tab.
I changed the owner from user Administrator to group Administrators (to match all the other DLLs in
the folder).
Click Permissions tab.
Uncheck the box for "Inherit from parent " etc.
A dialog displays asking whether to Copy or Remove the inherited permissions. I selected Copy since
the User group had the correct Read and Execute permissions.
Click OK to close dialog.
Click OK to close Advanced Settings.
Click OK to close Properties.
Hope this helps someone else. I got the idea for this after looking at how the permissions were set
up on all the other DLLs in the folder. I don't know NTFS security model enough to understand
exactly why this helped, since the effective permissions were already correct. Maybe a Windows guru
out there can add to this comment.
