The problem with the ttf comes owing to the fact that the font must be a Opentype Font.
the difference between a .otf and a .ttf in opentype is only the outlines (truetype outline for
ttf).
with imagettftext you can use ttf or otf but the type must be opentype and not a basic truetype.
exemple: arial.ttf, it's a opentype font with truetype outlines.
