Don't forget the colons arround the filename, or it will be cut if there are spaces:
// Suppose
$file = "a file with spaces.txt";
header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=".basename($file));
// User will get file "a"
header('Content-Disposition: attachment;
filename="'.basename($file).'"');
// User will get file "a file with spaces.txt"
