As of PHP-4.3.0 it is still necessary to specify the location of the browscap.ini file from the
php.ini file. Although an entry in the httpd.conf file (for Apache) that looks like:
php_admin_value browscap /etc/apache/conf/browscap.ini
does not throw any configtest errors and does appear to be a correct setting when looking at the
output from a phpinfo() call, it will segmentation fault the service.
I don't know if this should be a bug report, or a feature request -- since the documentation
with regard to the php.ini file is correct -- but the apache directive method almost works and would
be a great addition as most other php values can be specified from the apache configuration file.
