note 46478 added to ref.mysql

trace_mode breaks SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS. This is because it emits an EXPLAIN <query> before sending the <query> by itself, thus the subsequent SELECT FOUND_ROWS() is no longer the next consecutive query, and the result is zero. This was true for me for at least MySQL 4.0.21 and 4.1.5gamma.
