When installing on Windows XP (either as a CGI or as an apache module) and loading extensions, the
DLLs in the /dlls folder must be copied to C:\WINDOWS\system32 otherwise extensions that need
support DLLs will not load. You will get an error from apache as it starts up complaining that it
can't find the extension php_fooext.dll -- the extension/module could not be found.
Just setting your /extensions dir in php.ini is not good enough.
Also, if you want to load mcrypt, you must download the mcrypt.dll support DLL and put it in
C:\WINDOWS\system32 as well.
Get mcrypt.dll from:
http://ftp.emini.dk/pub/php/win32/mcrypt/libmcrypt.dll
Of course, substitute C: for whatever drive your WINDOWS\system32 folder lives on.
You may like to try a pre-compiled Apache2, with mod_perl, PHP, mod_ssl and lots more great stuff
which you can get from:
http://www.apache.org/dist/perl/win32-bin/perl-win32-bin.exe
Those in countries other than the USA can rest assured that it comes from a Canadian guy and so has
no legal or download hassles for SSL :-)
Make sure you install perl-win32-bin to C:\, so that apache is at C:\Apache2 and Perl is at C:\Perl.
It comes with DBD::mysql last time I checked.
If you want PostgreSQL, download the MSI installer for the 8.xx betas from http://www.postgresql.org. Do not try to install and run
PostgreSQL on Cygwin. You WILL bang your head up against a brick wall if you try!
Have fun.
