Unless I'm mistaken, this function is largely useless. You can write stuff to the temp file via the pointer, but how could you read the contents back? Since the file disappears when the script is done executing, it's not good for preserving state, you can't read the file later in the same script, so it's not good for passing large amounts of data between functions. What is an actual use of this function? ---- Manual Page -- http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.tmpfile.php Edit -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=edit+46664 Delete -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+46664&report=yes Reason: bad code -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+46664&report=yes&reason=bad+code Reason: spam -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+46664&report=yes&reason=spam Reason: useless example -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+46664&report=yes&reason=useless+example Reason: contains commercial links -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+46664&report=yes&reason=contains+commercial+links Reason: useless note -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+46664&report=yes&reason=useless+note Reject -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=reject+46664&report=yes Search -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php
